OUR MISSION

Our Mission: VFW Post 12235 in Salado, Texas, is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans by fostering camaraderie, advocating for their rights, and supporting their families. We strive to serve our community through outreach, education, and volunteer initiatives that uphold the values of patriotism, service, and remembrance. Guided by the VFW’s commitment that "No One Does More for Veterans,” we work to preserve the legacy of those who have served and inspire future generations to honor our nation’s heroes.

Our Vision: VFW Post 12235 envisions a thriving community where veterans are respected, supported, and empowered to lead fulfilling lives. We strive to be a cornerstone of service in Salado, fostering unity between veterans and civilians, inspiring patriotism in future generations, and ensuring that the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes are never forgotten.

Commander's Corner

Commander Annette Whittenberger

Stepping into the role of Commander for VFW Post 12235 is not something I take lightly—it is an honor built on the foundation of those who came before me.

I want to begin by recognizing Minnie Whitzel. From the very beginning, she didn’t just start a post—she created a home. A space where veterans could gather, connect, and feel seen. Over the past two years, her leadership, commitment, and unwavering compassion have carried this post through its earliest and most critical stages. Because of her, we are not just an organization—we are a community.

Minnie, thank you for building something that matters.

As I take the reins, I do so with deep respect for what has been built and a clear vision for where we are going. We may not yet have a permanent home, but what we do have is far more powerful—each other. A shared mission. A commitment to serve not only veterans, but our families and our community.

My promise as Commander is simple:
To lead with integrity.
To listen with intention.
And to continue building a post where every veteran feels they belong.

We have work to do—and I am ready for it.
